Minister Gordan Jandroković delivered lecture for XIV generation Diplomatic Academy attendees

Speaking about the priority strategic goal – the EU membership, Minister Jandroković laid out the chronology of the Croatia-EU relations and the current status of the negotiations, pointing out the goal to close the technical part of the negotiations and sign the Accession Treaty in 2011. In that regard, he presented Croatia’s priorities in the coming period, emphasizing the completion of the reforms, especially the ones concerning the justice system and shipbuilding, as well as the closing of the remaining chapters by June the following year. It is also in Croatia’s interest to continue with the Communication Strategy activities and preparation for the membership referendum, said the minister, as well as with the strengthening of the administrative capacities for using the financial package, which will grant Croatia € 3.5 billion during the first two years of membership.

Talking about Croatia’s NATO membership, Minister Jandroković explained the main reasons for acceding to it and gave an overview of the first 20 months of membership.

In regard to the next pillar of Croatia’s foreign policy – the regional cooperation, he pointed out that Croatia was an example and a leader in the region, a bridge between the EU and NATO and Europe’s southeast. He explained the basic guidelines of Croatia’s policy towards South Eastern Europe, with an emphasis on full support for the Euro-Atlantic perspective of all the region’s countries.

In his lecture, Minister Jandroković also remarked on Croatia’s status on the international scene, especially within the EU, Council of Europe and OSCE. He then talked about strengthening the economic diplomacy and upgrading the diplomatic network in accordance with Croatia’s economic interests.

Conclusively, Minister Jandroković presented the guidelines for adapting the foreign affairs service to effectively rise to the challenges of the globalised world and develop an efficient and multifunctional diplomacy.
