Ministarstvo vanjskih i europskih poslova

On Wednesday, 22 September 2010, on the margins of the 65th meeting of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration attended the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the NATO-Russia Council.

In his address Minister Jandroković said that cooperation between NATO and Russia has come into new swing since the last meeting of the Council. He thought it was an unequivocal sign that the spirit based on pragmatism and realism continues to guide the relations between both key factors in the Euroatlantic space.

In the political sense, joint cooperation opens useful spheres of dialogue that offer the opportunity to openly discuss a broad range of issues, particularly in the areas where opinions differ. Ultimately, this improves transparency and promotes mutual trust, said Minister Jandroković.

Noting that practical cooperation in priority areas of common interest had also been consolidated lately, he said that there is still room for its improvement, particularly in preventing and combating terrorism, WMD proliferation, and piracy.

Looking back on the Report on Common Security Challenges in 21st Century the Minister said that it was also a quality basis for additional improvement of the practical cooperation between NATO and Russia. An important step forward in this, in his opinion, was the upcoming meeting f the NATO-Russia Council in Lisbon.
