During her meeting with State Secretary Božinović State Secretary Algayerova stressed that Slovakia had provided strong and continuous support to the accession of Croatia into the European Union. The two parties expressed their satisfaction with active economic and political cooperation between the two countries, which is not burdened by open issues.

State Secretary Algayerova said that she wished for a quick termination of negotiations and entry of Croatia into full membership of the European Union.

Minister Lajčak and State Secretary Božinović exchanged views on the region of South East Europe, in particular about Bosnia and Herzegovina. In that sense, they welcomed the tomorrow’s summit which will take place in Sarajevo, and expressed their hope that the countries of the region would continue their efforts on the path towards Eurointegration. They stressed that they are faced by many challenges on this path, starting from the reform of the judicial system and public administration to the fight against corruption and organised crime, and achievement of complete freedom of the media.

The two parties also expressed their desire to continue with the process of strengthening bilateral relations between countries in the region, which is an important factor in the Euro-Atlantic journey of each individual country. The two officials welcomed the recent proposal by the European Commission to liberalise the visa regime for entry into the European Union countries for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania.

Minister Lajčak stressed the importance of establishing a new diplomatic service of the European Union of which Croatia will also make a constituent part very soon.

State Secretary Božinović thanked the Slovakian Government, whose term of office is about to expire, for the support provided to the Republic of Croatia in the realisation of important foreign policy objectives.
