Having presented the current status of accession negotiations for the membership of the Republic of Croatia in the European Union, State Secretary Plenković, explained in more detail to representatives of newspaper and TV houses what further efforts were being invested by Croatia in order to complete the negotiation process by the end of the Belgian presidency of the European Union in the second half of this year. He stressed that the future priorities were the preparations for the referendum on EU membership of the Republic of Croatia, and the completion of the preparation of the Accession Treaty.

In response to journalists’ questions about the context of relations between Croatia and countries of South-East Europe, he said that the Croatia’s desire to support these countries in their European ambitions has been recently confirmed by the offering of Croatian translations of the European Union acquis to heads of these countries. Such a gesture represents an expression of a desire for the strengthening of good neighbourly relations, and a stimulus to countries in the region to speed up their voyage towards Union membership, said State Secretary Plenković.

Together with Belgian journalists, the Spokesman of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, Jerome Hardy, was also present at the press conference with the representatives of the Belgian media.
