Minister Jandroković congratulated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration staff on the Diplomacy Day, thanking them for their contribution in the implementation of Croatia's foreign policy.

Looking back on Croatia's situation a year ago, Jandrokovic highlighted the progress in the European Union accession negotiations, cooperation with the Hague war crimes tribunal, and Croatia's participation in peace operations.

Speaking of Croatia's regional policy, he highlighted Croatia's bid to help South- East European countries in the Euro-Atlantic integration processes by sharing with them its experience.

Jandrokovic also referred to the economic diplomacy saying that it was a very important foreign policy element which should open doors to Croatian exporters and to investors willing to invest in the Republic of Croatia. In the concluding part of his speech, the Minister also spoke of Croatia's achievements within multilateral organisations and of plans to modernise the Croatian diplomatic service. He announced that parliament would discuss a new foreign affairs bill early in the autumn.

Croatian Diplomacy Day is observed on June 7 to commemorate the oldest document in Croatia's diplomatic history, a letter Pope John VIII sent to Croatian Prince Branimir on 7 June 879, recognising his rule over Croatia.

At that time this was the highest international recognition in which, in the terms of modern diplomacy, Croatia was recognized as a sovereign state. On the occasion of the Diplomacy Day, class 2009/2010, the 13th generation of the Diplomatic Academy received diplomas certifying that they have completed a one-year course in diplomatic studies.
