The opening ceremony of Iberian – Slavonic days in Camões Institute, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, was attended by ambassadors of Slavonic countries accredited to Portugal. The opening speech was held by the ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Portugal, Željko Vukosav.

Since this year Iberian – Slavonic days are held as a part of the 100. Anniversary of the Portuguese Republic, ambassador Vukosav reminded the participants of the establishment of first diplomatic relations between the Dubrovnik Republic and Portugal, when consulate in Lisbon was opened in mid XVIII. Century. He also emphasized the role of first Portuguese journalist, Antonija Pušić, a great erudite of Croatian origin who throughout her life and work implemented the republican principle of equality, especially sexual equality.

At the encouragement of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Lisbon, this year the Iberian – Slavonic days are enriched by the Week of Slavonic Cinematography which will be opened by the Croatian film "Što je Iva snimila 21. listopada 2003.", directed by Tomislav Radić. The accompanying exhibition on Dubrovnik Republic and Antonija Pušić will be accompanied by a recital of Croatian authors and tasting of Croatian wines.
