Addressing the present guests, the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of Bulgaria Danijela Barišić reminded that Bašćanska ploča, one of the first monuments of Croatian literacy, was also written in Glagolitic script. It was of great significance to Croatian literacy and is still an inspiration. She expressed confidence that the relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Bulgaria initiated through Glagolitic script twelve centuries ago will become even more comprehensive when Croatia joins the European Union sharing a European future with Bulgaria.

Opening the exhibition before many representatives of the Bulgarian Parliament, Diplomatic corps and Bulgarian scientific and cultural public, the President of the Narodno Sobranje Cecka Cačeva stressed the importance of the Glagolitic script for the cultural heritage of Bulgarians, as well as other Slavonic nations and reminded that this exhibition had been exhibited a few months ago in the City assembly of the City of Zagreb.

Konstantin Kostov, the Head of the Art organisation Jadertina from Zadar, an artist who has lived in Zadar for the past forty years and actively contributes to cultural co–operation between the two countries, reminded that 32 exhibited paintings with Glagolitic motifs were painted by the artists from many countries like Austria, Germany, Russia, Slovakia, USA, Czech Republic, Ukraine and of course, Croatia and Bulgaria. A canvas measuring fifteen meters, on which these paintings had been imprinted, was exhibited on the Captain’s Tower in Zadar last autumn and recently in Zagreb, and was finally donated to the UNESCO. Kostov also expressed hope that this exhibition will serve as another evidence of good relations between Bulgaria and Croatia, in the past as well as in the future.

Besides the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Sofia, the exhibition „Glagolitic renaissance“ was organised by the Art organisation Jadertina from Zadar, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, the Department for Culture of the Independent Service for Croats Abroad and Culture of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Department for Culture of the City of Zadar and Zadar County and the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Republic of Croatia.
