Through many events in Karlovac, Zagreb, Sveti Ivan Zelina and Gospić, Croatia marked the Europe Week on Tuesday, 4 May 2010

State Secretary for European Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrej Plenković participated at the formal session of the European Integration Council of the Karlovačka County and on that occasion held a lecture on Croatia’s EU accession process. He stressed the importance of quality information that Croatian citizens will have after Croatia becomes a European Union member state. Concerning the implementation of the Communication Strategy, he stressed the importance of intensifying activities of the Croatian Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and other state administration bodies on both local and regional level, the role of which is also invaluable in sending messages to the public. With the purpose of informing, co–ordination of all society levels is necessary, stated State Secretary Plenković.

One of the goals of European Integration Council sessions is introducing possibilities of local communities using EU pre–accession funds, as well as advantages of using structural funds and the Cohesion fund once Croatia becomes an EU member state, to the representatives of local and regional self–government. This was mentioned by Tomislav Belovari, Director General of the Central Office for Development Strategy and Coordination of EU Funds, while the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland David Blunt, Head of the Department for Political, Trade and Economic Issues, Press and Information in the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Croatia David Hudson, and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in the Republic of Croatia Jose Perdo Torrubia Asenjo stated their experiences and gave recommendation on this subject.

A lecture on Croatian accession negotiations and possibilities of using EU funds was held in the Old City Hall in Zagreb, by State Secretary of the Central Office for Development Strategy and Coordination of EU Funds Hrvoje Dolenec and the Director General of the Coordination and Monitoring of Adaptation to EU Legal System and Monitoring Implementation of Stabilization and Association Agreement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Dubravka Vlašić-Pleše.

A lecture “Croatia on its path to EU” was held in high school Dragutina Stražimira, Sv. Ivan Zelina, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and workshops “Get to know the European Union!” were held in Zadar for students in their last year of primary school and high school.

This afternoon, State Secretary for European Integration Plenković will hold a lecture on advantages of EU accession in Gospić, and a round table “Cohesion and Strucutral Funds, How to Use Them in the Correct Way” will be held in British Council in Zagreb, organised by the association Chevening Alumni Croatia.
