CEI Dubrovnik Diplomatic Forum on “Strategic Public Diplomacy” continued May 21st 2010

The Forum ended May 22nd 2010 with a plenary session which reviewed the two-day program and gave the final evaluation of this year’s Forum

At the plenary session, presentations were delivered by German Ambassador to Croatia Bernd Fischer, Head of the Public Relations Office of the US Embassy to Montenegro Alex Titolo, Head of Communications and Spokesperson at the Liechtenstein Government Gerlinde Manz-Christ, and First Vice President of the Russian Diplomatic Academy Viktor Laptev.

Ambassador Fischer delivered a presentation on the German public diplomacy techniques and skills. The US Embassy to Montenegro representative Titolo explained the American public diplomacy experience through the internet social networks like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Spokesperson Manz-Christ presented the concrete public interaction projects of the Liechtenstein Government, such as the multidisciplinary project of shaping the visual identity of Liechtenstein and the project of communication between the government bodies in a crisis situation. First Vice President Laptev talked about the history and current educational programs of the Russian Diplomatic Academy.

The second part of today’s program had the participants discussing in two working groups the relations between public diplomacy and the media, as well as the diplomatic training directed at acquiring the knowledge and techniques for a more efficient public diplomacy. A special expert workshop was also held on “Shaping the Public Opinion on the Road to NATO and EU Membership”, which was led by the US Deputy Ambassador Vivian Walker and saw the presentation by young diplomats from the CEI countries.
