Minister Gordan Jandroković received Hungarian Foreign Minister-designate Janos Martonyi

Minister Jandroković congratulated János Martonyi on the overwhelming victory of the Fidesz coalition at the recent parliamentary elections in Hungary, wished him success in his future office and invited him to officially visit the Republic of Croatia

Minister Jandroković congratulated János Martonyi on the overwhelming victory of the Fidesz coalition at the recent parliamentary elections in Hungary, wished him success in his future office and invited him to officially visit the Republic of Croatia.

Both sides described the bilateral relations as excellent and substantial. Being based on the multidimensional cooperation, the ministers agreed that the relations between Croatia and Hungary can serve as an example of good relations between neighbouring countries. This informal visit to Croatia, as well as the meeting with Minister Jandroković, is a confirmation of the friendly level and strategic relations between the two countries unburdened by outstanding issues.

Minister Jandroković informed his collocutor with the actualities regarding Croatia’s EU accession process. He said that Croatia had entered the final phase of the negotiations and pointed out the determination to carry out the remaining reforms. He also thanked for the clear and open support by the Hungarian authorities for Croatia’s EU membership and expressed hope that it would come into full blood during Hungary’s EU presidency. In regard to a wider regional context, the collocutors agreed that Croatia and Hungary could play an important role in the stabilization and accession of the region of South Eastern Europe to the Euro-Atlantic integration. At that, Minister Jandroković reiterated the readiness of the Croatian Government to lend advisory assistance to all of the region’s countries during their EU talks.

Both sides confirmed that the economic relations between Croatia and Hungary are very good and that the trade has been on the constant rise for the past several years. Minister Jandroković expressed satisfaction with the fact that Hungary is fourth among the foreign investors in Croatia and, on the eve of the tourist season, expressed hope in a larger number of the Hungarian tourist visiting the Croatian coast. The collocutors also exchanged opinions about the two countries’ infrastructural projects, namely in transport and energy. Minister Jandroković conveyed the Croatian Government’s clear support for the construction of a reliable and sustainable European energy system, pointing out that Croatia with its geographical position can serve as a trustworthy partner in energy projects.

The collocutors also exchanged opinions about the issue of the two countries’ regional cooperation. Minister Jandroković communicated Croatia’s support for all of the regional initiatives, such as the Danube Strategy, whose goal is to bring near and strengthen the cooperation among the target countries.

The collocutors also talked about the first announced moves of the new Hungarian government, including the introduction of parliamentary seats for members of national minorities (Croatian national minority included) and dual-citizenship mechanism for Hungarian abroad.
