On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Minister Jandroković welcomed all the guests and gave his introductory speech on the presentation of Croatia at the upcoming EXPO exhibition. After having mentioned that the Republic of Croatia, after successful appearances on the world exhibits in Lisbon, Hanover, Aichi and Saragossa, once again recognised the importance of participation at this year’s international event in Shanghai, the minister said that the topic of the exhibition “Better town, better life” completely reflects the nature of the host, one of the fastest growing cities in the People’s Republic of China and the world. Shanghai has also been traditionally friendly towards Zagreb and Croatia, which is also evidenced by the fact that these two cities are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their friendship.
Not only will the Croatian appearance at EXPO contribute to better recognisability of our country, culture and tradition but it will also contribute to further strengthening of overall relations between the Republic of Croatia and China. In that context, Minister Jandroković stressed that the two countries have experienced a new impetus to their mutual political relations in the last two years, which will, in addition to numerous initiatives in other areas, stir the interest of Chinese tourists and businessmen for the Republic of Croatia. He also stressed that he was convinced that the soon-to-be-completed Croatian negotiations for membership of the European Union will serve as additional stimulus for the strengthening of bilateral relations between Croatia and China. This was also one of the important reasons for my recent visit to China, and I am glad to be able to announce that China will appear as a partner country at this year’s Zagreb Autumn Fair, said Minister Jandroković.
Having mentioned that Croatian pavilions have been remembered for their inventiveness and intensity of experience which aroused interest in the visitors to get to know Croatia better, Minister Jandroković said that he was convinced that Croatia’s appearance at this year’s World Exhibition in Shanghai would also be successful thus bringing it closer to millions of visitors who are expected this year, in addition to as many as 192 participant countries and 50 international organisations.
