On that occasion, Ministers Jandroković and Borg signed agreements on the suppression of illicit trade in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, organised crime and international terrorism and on cultural, educational and scientific cooperation between the Governments of the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Malta.

Having thanked the Maltese Government for its continuous support for the acceptance of the Republic of Croatia into full membership of the European Union, especially in the context of readiness to provide negotiation experience, Minister Jandroković expressed his satisfaction with the today’s signature of the two agreements between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Malta. During the discussion on the progress of the accession process of Croatia to the European Union, which is in the final stage, Minister Jandroković stressed that Croatia is strongly committed to completing the negotiations in 2010, and to the work on the composition of the Treaty of Accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union.

Minister Borg expressed a clear and unequivocal support to the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union and stressed that this would additionally strengthen the already good relations between the two countries. He also presented to the Croatian side the experiences and particularities encountered by the Republic of Malta during accession negotiations with the European Union, and the experience of working in institutions during the first couple of years of membership.

Concerning trade between the two countries, which has increased in the past year, Ministers Borg and Jandroković agreed that bilateral economic cooperation needs to be strengthened, especially in the areas of tourism, shipbuilding, agriculture, steel and pharmaceutical industries. In this respect, they discussed the possibility of a more frequent exchange of visits between business delegations of the two countries.

They also discussed the cooperation between the two countries within multilateral organisations.
