Press briefing on the occasion of the first anniversary of Croatia’s membership of NATO

State Secretary Božinović said that the foreign policy position of Croatia was strengthened by its entry into NATO with its ideas and interests profiled much easier on international fora. He also reminded that Croatia has become an indispensable constituent part of NATO in the past year participating in the management of this Alliance together with 27 other member countries. As an example, he mentioned the talks about the new strategic concept of a NATO document that will define guidelines for the Alliance’s activities in the 21st century.

State Secretary Božinović emphasised the important role played by Croatia in the NATO’s “open door policy” and said that the future area of enlargement of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation would be the region of South East Europe.

When talking about NATO’s mission in Afghanistan, he said that this was and has remained one of the greatest challenges and added that Croatia was aware of the importance of stabilising the country to contribute to safety of the North Atlantic area.
