Ministarstvo vanjskih i europskih poslova

Minister Jandroković participated on Tuesday, 30 March 2010, in Budapest, in a working meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary, Péter Balázs...

The Ministers exchanged opinions on the issues of regional cooperation between the three countries. Minister Jandroković said that the Republic of Croatia supported all regional initiatives aimed at closer and better cooperation between the countries in question.

While discussing the cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Serbia with the European Union, Minister Jandroković thanked the Republic of Hungary for its open and continuous support provided to the Republic of Croatia during accession negotiations. After having updated the other parties about the current status of the negotiation process with the European Union, he said that all the preconditions for the completion of negotiations by the end of this year have been created. He stressed once again the readiness of the Government of the Republic of Croatia to offer advice and assitance to all countries in the region of South Eastern Europe during the negotiations with the European Union, which may be illustrated by the fact that the Croatian Prime Minister, Jadranka Kosor, handed all the translations of the acquis communautaire in the Croatian language during the recent conference on the Western Balkans which took place in Brdo near Kranj.

The ministers exchanged opinions on the existing level of cross-border cooperation and concluded that such a cooperation might have a very significant positive impact on the development of the economy of the border areas, on the improvement of the living standard of the local population and on the preservation of the environment.

In the wider regional context, the ministers expressed their support to the Danube Strategy and their readiness to actively cooperate and contribute to the strengthening and importance of this regional forum. They especially emphasised the need for the building of a more modern transport infrastructure, road and railway corridors and waterways, and the reconstruction or building of new regional oil and gas pipelines which will ensure the energy security in the region. Minister Jandroković stressed that the Republic of Croatia will, because of its geographical position, serve as a reliable partner in energy projects.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs were received by the President of the Republic of Hungary, László Sólyom.
