State Secretary Davor Božinović held political consultations with Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel Yosef Gal

State Secretary Božinović expressed continuing interest of the Republic of Croatia in the developments in the Middle East, and he expressed satisfaction with the agreement to continue the peace talks between the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority with the mediation of special US envoy George Mitchell, who is currently on a visit to Israel. He reported the view of the Republic of Croatia that the peaceful solution for the Middle East has no alternative, and he reiterated that Croatia firmly supports the solution envisaging two States that will co-exist in peace and security.

He informed the Israeli side about the situation in South East Europe, emphasising that the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration was the best path to stabilisation and prosperity of the countries in the region.

He described the relations between Israel and Croatia as excellent and informed that Croatia, as the future Member State, will support the strengthening of relations between Israel and the European Union.

Secretary General Gal expressed satisfaction with the intensive cooperation and Croatia’s friendly approach in many areas. He expressed his interest in Croatia’s views on the situation in South East Europe, and he spoke about the Middle East Peace Process and security hazards in the wider Middle East region. He also expressed hope that the latest initiative of indirect talks with the meditation of the US will prompt the Palestinian side to return to the negotiating table.

State Secretary Božinović said that the Republic of Croatia has a constructive role in international security through its activities in the UN Security Council and that it was presently contributing as a member of NATO, especially in Afghanistan, and that it would soon continue as EU member. He added that even now Croatia supported EU’s efforts to maintain international security.

State Secretary Božinović talked about the upcoming visit of Minister Jandroković to the State of Israel where the Croatian-Israeli economic forum will take place.

During the day, State Secretary Božinović met with Political Director for Central Europe and Eurasia P. Aivi, Political Director for Western Europe and EU N. Gilon, and he had a working lunch with Senior Political Director R. Barak.
