Minister Gordan Jandroković met with Minister Samuel Žbogar

The collocutors expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in the relations between the two countries and they pointed out the willingness to continue the active cooperation, in the good neighbourly spirit, in all areas of mutual interest.

At the meeting, they discussed the joint organisation of the conference on South East Europe that will be held on 20 March 2010 in Brdo kod Kranja. They also talked about the upcoming meeting of the Mixed Committee for Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia that will be held in mid-April in Zagreb.

With regard to the present course of Croatia’s accession negotiations, Minister Jandroković underlined the importance of opening Chapter 31 (Foreign, security and defence policy) as soon as possible. Minister Žbogar pointed out that activities to this end were under way, and that he expected the Slovenian side to solve this issue in the near future.

They also touched upon the concrete problems encountered by the Croatian and Slovenian nationals who live in the border areas. For the purpose of solving these problems, primarily the issue of daily migrants, border passes and border traffic on the border crossing Brezovica-Brezovica, the Ministers agreed to organise the meetings of the competent ministries in both states as soon as possible.

They expressed their belief that the active joint cooperation would result in the common agreed solution to these issues, so as to facilitate the lives of the people living on both sides of the border.

In the light of further improvements in the relations between the two states, they reviewed the possibility to simplify the border control procedure in the railway passenger transport between Zagreb and Ljubljana.
