Minister Jandroković emphasised that the main purpose of his visit to China was further strengthening of the traditionally very good bilateral relations between Croatia and China, and he expressed satisfaction with his visit to Shaanxi Province boasting a rich cultural heritage and great human resources that are important not only for the People’s Republic of China but for the world in general.
Having regard to the scientific and research potentials of the Shaanxi Province, the developed energy sector and tourism, the collocutors expressed the willingness to intensify mutual cooperation.
Minister Jandroković expressed special pleasure with the visit to the Museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses and the ancient Chinese city of Xi'an, once the starting point of the “Silk Road”, which in the past served not only as a centre for trading goods between Asia and Europe, but it also connected different cultures and religions. The Minister said that the name of the great European travel writer Marko Polo, who is believed to have been born on the Croatian island of Korčula, is closely linked with the “Silk Road”. Based on this historical and symbolic link, relations were established between the town of Korčula and the town of Yangzhou, where Marko Polo stayed in the 13th century. Minister Jandroković indicated that this cooperation opened space for even wider economic cooperation, and linking Jiangsu Province with one of the regions in Croatia.
He also said that Croatia considers the cooperation between the Chinese and Croatian regions and towns to be very important, pointing out that this cooperation represents a significant contribution to the overall bilateral relation between Croatia and China as it gives them concrete substance. He reminded that the cities of Zagreb and Shanghai have been developing their cooperation for 30 years, and similar cooperation has been established among Rijeka and Dalian, Primorsko-Goranska County and Liaoning Province, and Istrian County and Zhejiang Province.
