Croatia, as part of NATO forces, has confirmed its dedication to the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, where efforts are being put forth to build a society capable of assuming independent responsibility for its security.

One of the key elements of that process is the forming of national security forces which would become the backbone of Afghanistan’s internal stability. In that regard, the Republic of Croatia and the Afghan Government are making great efforts in order for the Afghan national defense and police to be able to ensure security-based progress and development for the Afghan people and their county.
br>Also, additional means, increased control efforts and a realistic training timeframe could make national security forces the bases of Afghanistan’s internal security. Croatia places great importance on that and is convinced that that is the best way to implement peace and stability in the country. Croatia has taken part in the realization of those goals since the very beginning and will continue giving its contribution to that end. This is also evidenced by the Croatian Government’s decision to further expand our contribution this year though the training of the police forces.

Croatia deems that important economic projects, including those on a local scale, have a positive effect on the everyday life of the Afghan people, as proven by Croatia’s experience in local-community projects. In that regard, Croatia commends the Afghan Government’s dedication to implementing the reforms conducive to a long-term economic growth and development of Afghanistan.

The London International Conference on Afghanistan was organized and co-chaired by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and the Afghan Government, led by President Hamid Karzai.

The goal of the Conference was to renew and strengthen the international community’s support for Afghanistan’s efforts in reconstructing the country. The international community wants to agree with the Afghan Government on the priorities whose implementation it would also monitor. With the aim of making concrete changes crucial for the development of Afghan society and state, the Conference also considered improving the coordination between the international community’s overall civil and military efforts.

On the Conference’s margins, Minister Jandroković met with Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen, with whom he talked about Croatia’s EU accession process.
