Commemorating 18th anniversary of Vukovar’s fall, Urakami Cathedral in Nagasaki held memorial mass for Vukovar victims and world peace

The mass was led by Bishop Sakae Kojima, while Croatian Ambassador to Japan Drago Štambuk delivered a speech recalling the Vukovar memorial masses held 2006 in Nagasaki, 2007 in Hiroshima, and 2008 in Tokyo

The mass was led by Bishop Sakae Kojima, while Croatian Ambassador to Japan Drago Štambuk delivered a speech recalling the Vukovar memorial masses held 2006 in Nagasaki, 2007 in Hiroshima, and 2008 in Tokyo. The mass was attended by some 700 church members, while all of the churches of the Nagasaki archbishopric held prayers for the Vukovar victims and world peace.

On the day before, the Nagasaki-Croatia Japanese-Croatian Friendship Society was founded in Nagasaki, with a special statutory emphasis on the cooperation with Vukovar. Attending the founding ceremony were Nagasaki Mayor Tomihisa Taue, Archbishop Msgr. Joseph Takami, former deputy defence minister and member of the Japanese Parliament Seigo Kitamura, and special envoy of the Governor Keinosuke Tanaka. Afterwards, Ambassador Štambuk held a presentation about the Republic of Croatia.
