Minister Gordan Jandroković met on margins of UN Security Council thematic session Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Discussing Croatia’s activities within the UN bodies, Minister Jandroković, expressed Croatia’s firm dedication to continue, after the expiration of its mandate as a non-permanent Security Council member, to actively advocate and support the building of peace and security in the international community. Minister Jandroković conveyed to the Secretary-General Croatia’s intention to apply for a new two-year mandate in the Peacebuilding Commission for the 2012-2013 period. This is a testimony to the Croatian Government’s intention to continue to contribute to the increased efficiency of the UN bodies, both through maintaining high positions within the Secretariat and other bodies, and through the UN peacekeeping missions.

Minister Jandroković also outlined in short the participation of Croatian citizens in the UN peacekeeping missions, expressing satisfaction with Croatia’s transformation from a recipient of peacekeeping mission into a country participating in them and contributing to the building of peace and stability.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed gratitude for Croatia’s constructive role and contribution during its two-year membership in the Security Council, chairmanship of the Counterterrorism Committee, and participation in the peacekeeping missions around the globe.

The collocutors also discussed the current state of affairs in South Eastern Europe.
