Ambassador Vicencije Biuk opened in Australia First Croatian Film Festival

In a short speech, Ambassador Biuk applauded the holding of the festival and pointed out its importance for the Croatian community in Australia. Croatian Consul General in Melbourne Antun Babić spoke about the festival’s significance for the strengthening of the bilateral cultural relations between Croatia and Australia, as well as for preserving the ethnic identity of the second and third generation of Croatian emigrants in Australia.

The opening saw the participation of numerous distinguished guests from Australia’s political, social and cultural life, while the festival saw the attendance of several thousands Australian citizens and Croatian emigrants. The festival was also used for the tourist promotion of Croatia.

An overall of 12 Croatian films were shown at the festival, with an emphasis on the more recent production, but including the classics such as Tko pjeva zlo ne misli (He Who Sings Means No Harm) by Krešo Golik as well.
