After the opening speech by Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, a speech was delivered by Minister Jandroković.

Stating that the overall trade between Croatia and Qatar in 2008 totalled 102 million USD, while in the first half of 2009 it reached as much as 87.5 million, Minister Jandroković pointed out that it is in Croatia’s interest to continue strengthening the economic cooperation to mutual benefit. He called for the intensification of Qatari businessmen’s activities on the Croatian market, which is already firmly linked with the markets of the EU members and the countries of South Eastern Europe.

The Qatari side has already expressed interest in joint investments in petrochemistry, chemical industry, food industry and tourism, but there are numerous other profitable areas as well, such as the construction of infrastructure and energy facilities, energy distribution equipment, research, exploitation and distribution of gas and oil, shipbuilding, and export of metal and wood products.

As one of the important elements of this type of forum Minister Jandroković pointed out the possibility of familiarizing the two business communities with the market potentials and existing capital projects. This will also contribute to a higher level of bilateral commerce, said the minister, emphasizing the importance of support from the Croatian and Qatari governments, as well as the chambers of commerce, in stimulating meeting between the two countries’ representatives.

The Qatari side’s representatives presented the Qatari economy, while the Croatian businessmen outlined Croatia’s business opportunities, namely in regard to establishing partnerships, tourism and investment.

Doha will also see meetings between representatives from the Croatian Ministry of Tourism and Qatar Tourism Authority, Export and Investment Promotion Agency and Qatar Investment Authority, Croatian construction companies and Ashghal Public Works Authority, Croatian power industry companies and Kahramaa General Electricity & Water Corporation, and between representatives of Croatian oil and chemical companies and Qatargas.

After the Croatia-Qatar Economic Forum ends, Minister Jandroković and the Croatian delegation will visit the traffic junction in Doha being built by the Croatian company Konstruktor.
