Minister Gordan Jandroković received French Senate Speaker Gerard Larcher

The collocutors expressed mutual satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations, partnership cooperation in the European integration process and intensive parliamentary cooperation

Minister Jandroković thanked for the support and friendship France had continually been showing during Croatia’s accession negotiations, its exceptional engagement during its EU presidency and its efforts, together with the European Commission, to find a solution for unblocking the negotiations. In regard to that, Minister Jandroković outlined the current course of Croatia’s accession negotiations. Pointing out that Croatia is dedicated to complete the necessary reforms, namely in agriculture, justice and combating corruption, Minister Jandroković expressed his conviction that would conclude the negotiations by mid-2010. In the realization of that foreign-policy goal we are further encouraged by the positive outcome of the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, as it proves the EU members’ dedication to the enlargement policy. Minister Jandroković added that during the last visit by Chief Prosecutor Brammertz had reconfirmed its dedication to full cooperation with the ICTY.

Minister Jandroković also thanked the French Government’s decision to put at Croatia’s disposal experts in the EU matters, justice and general legal issues of enlargement, and agricultural policy. This form of pre-accession assistance is based on the Bilateral Cooperation Program between the Republic of Croatia and the French Republic.

Senate Speaker Larcher inquired about the development of Croatia’s relations with the neighbouring countries. Minister Jandroković said that the regional political and economic cooperation is well-developed and constantly progressing. Speaking about Croatia’s relations with the neighbouring countries, Minister Jandroković emphasized the Euro-Atlantic perspective as the best guarantee for stability and progress of the region, stressing Croatia’s dedication to the continued strengthening of regional cooperation on both the bilateral and multilateral level.

Croatia and France also maintain very good cooperation in culture, education and sports, so in that regard the collocutors touched upon the future activities of the French-German School in Zagreb.

The meeting also discussed Croatia’s participation in the Union for the Mediterranean.
