The conference also saw the attendance of interim chargé d’affaires of the European Commission’s Delegation to Croatia David Hudson, Swedish Ambassador Fredrik Vahlquist and Chief Negotiator Vladimir Drobnjak.

State Secretary Božinović said that the news from the last Intergovernmental Conference on Croatia’s EU accession are favourable for both Croatia and the Union as a whole. He added that behind it lies a monumental effort by the persons involved in the accession process, which has so far brought on many positive social changes in Croatia. He also said he believes that, as opposed to the others’ accession processes, Croatia’s took place in different and adverse circumstances, but is now entering its last phase. Croatia has opened 28 of the 33 chapters, 12 of which have been temporarily closed.

Chargé d’affaires of the European Commission’s Delegation Hudson said that the results of the Intergovernmental Conference are an indication of the significant progress of Croatia’s accession process, while Ambassador Vahlquist expressed satisfaction with the negotiation dynamics, Croatia’s preparedness and the work done so far. Chief Negotiator Drobnjak thanked the European Commission for the assistance it is offering Croatia.
