For the first time since joining NATO, Croatia is taking part in the activities of the NATO-Russia Council. Minister Jandroković expressed full support for the principles, values and goal set in the Founding Act on the Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security, as well as the Rome Declaration, which have established the NATO-Russia Council.

He pointed out that the NATO-Russia partnership is of strategic importance for the strengthening of Euro-Atlantic security, and that Croatia sees the NATO-Russia Council as a forum for dialogue on all of the issues of common interest.

Today’s meeting is the first time the foreign ministers of NATO and Russia have met since the onset of the crisis is Georgia. It marked the reconstruction of relations and gave impetus to the strengthening of political dialogue and cooperation, namely military, within the NATO-Russia Council.

The cooperation between NATO and Russia began in 1991 within the former North Atlantic Cooperation Council, later named the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council. By singing the Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security in Paris 1997, NATO and Russia set up a framework for the development of cooperation. A new momentum came in 2002 with the signing of a declaration entitled NATO-Russia Relations: A New Quality, which founded the NATO-Russia Council.
