Minister Jandroković said he believes said Protocol would alleviate the issues of citizens living along the border, which have arisen since the opening of the road border crossing Goričan-Letenye II on the newly-constructed Rijeka-Zagreb-Budapest roadway end-2008.
He said that Croatia and Hungary share the same historical, European heritage and European values, which would lend new dimensions to the two countries’ cooperation within NATO, and soon within the EU as well. “Cross-border cooperation plays and important role in that, and we believe that the re-opening of the Goričan-Letenye I border crossing would benefit the local population on both sides”, said Minister Jandroković.
Pursuant to the Protocol, the old Goričan-Letenye I border crossing is open for personal vehicles traffic all year long, but only for the border area population (Međimurska and Varaždinska counties in the Republic of Croatia, and Zala County in the Republic of Hungary). For international passenger transport, save for bus transport, said border crossing would be open during the tourist season only, from June 1 until August 31.
