In response to today’s adoption of statement by Slovenian National Assembly on protection of national interests

We reject the allegations put forth in said statement by the highest legislative body of Slovenia, and consider them untruthful, legally unfounded and devoid of any legal international effect.

Said statement refutes the claims by the Slovenian side that the Republic of Croatia is the one prejudging the border with Slovenia. Furthermore, said statement represents a violation of the state of the national border as it was on June 25th 1991 and the two countries’ fundamental documents adopted on the day of their gaining of independence, as well as the Brijuni Statement on the Avoidance of Incidents which it recalls.

Presenting the Slovenian Parliament’s positions in such a manner leaves no room for solving the Croatia-Slovenia border dispute through a constructive dialogue, and only further confirms the validity of Croatia’s efforts to bring the matter before the International Court of Justice in the Hague, as was agreed upon at the meeting between the Croatian and Slovenian prime ministers held August 2007 in Bled.

After a thorough analysis of the Slovenian Parliament’s statement, the Croatian Government will submit to the Croatian Parliament a proposal for further action.
