Talking about the current situation and Slovenia’s blockage of Croatia’s EU accession negotiations, Minister Jandroković emphasized our goal remains to close the negotiations by end-2009. In that regard, he stated the arguments why the Croatia-Slovenia border dispute should be solved in accordance with the principles of the international law, pointing out that bilateral issues, as prescribed by the European norms, should not be dragged into the negotiation process, but solved bilaterally. He thanked Minister Müller for the continuous support Bavaria is showing Croatia.

Minister Müller expressed understanding for Croatia’s positions regarding the border dispute with Slovenia and extended support for Croatia’s quick accession into the EU, offering Bavaria’s support in that process.

Talking about the economic relations, the collocutors described them as excellent, noting the importance of the Permanent Croatia-Bavarian Commission, founded as early as 1971. Minister Jandroković said that in 2007, the trade reached nearly €700 mil., adding that some 1300 Bavarian companies are operating in Croatia. Each year, nearly 500,000 Bavarians chose Croatia as their holiday destination. The meeting also discussed other forms of cooperation, namely the one between universities, as well as the project of linking the Danubian countries.
