State Secretary Bianca Matković met with EU coordinators from ministries and other relevant state bodies

State Secretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and chief coordinator for monitoring the EU negotiations-related activities Bianca Matković met January 16th 2009 with the EU coordinators from the ministries and other state bodies involved in the processes of the EU accession negotiations

Familiarising the present parties with the course of the accession negotiations, State Secretary Matković pointed out that during the last year, the dynamics of fulfilling the obligations stemming from the negotiations has additionally intensified. In 2008, 127 laws, 334 bylaws, and 184 detailed measures were passed, said State Secretary Matković. She also pointed out that the legislature harmonization will continue with equal intensity this year, in which 57 laws, 252 bylaws, and 165 detailed measures are expected to be passed.

State Secretary Matković noted that so far 22 chapters have been opened, and 7 temporarily closed, while this year will see the opening of another 11 and closing of 26 chapters, emphasizing the Croatian Government’s determination to complete the negotiations this year, in accordance with the European Commission’s Indicative Timetable.

In that regard, State Secretary Matković said that the key document for monitoring the implementation of the legal reforms will continue to be the National EU Accession Programme, which the Government adopted end-December last year. She informed the EU coordinators with their responsibilities in the current year, as well as with the plan for harmonizing the legislature and meeting the negotiations criteria both during the Czech and Swedish EU presidency.
