Minister Gordan Jandroković participated in 16th OSCE Ministerial Meeting

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković participated 4 and 5 December 2008 in the 16th OSCE Ministerial Meeting, held in Helsinki, the Republic of Finland

In his speech, Minister Jandroković said that this year’s meeting is being held at a time when OSCE is faced with numerous challenges. In the globalized world of today, OSCE needs to find an efficient way to respond to the different forms of international threats, said Jandroković, added that OSCE has been recognized as an effective mechanism of preventing and alleviating the consequences of conflicts.

As regards security cooperation, Minister Jandroković pointed out the successful implementation of the Agreement on Sub-Regional Arms Control as the only efficient mechanism of controlling conventional armament in Europe. In that regard, Croatia also welcomes the signing of the Convention on Cluster Munitions 3 December in Oslo.

Security, stability, and economic development are the basic goals of Croatia’s regional policy, said Minister Jandroković. That is why the Croatian Government is paying full attention to the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo, and especially the relations between Croatia and Serbia, which are of extreme importance for the stability of the region as a whole, said Jandroković.

The Republic of Croatia, as a non-permanent Security Council member and a country on the verge of full-fledged EU and NATO membership, is ready to assume its part of the responsibility for international security, concluded Minister Gordan Jandroković.
