Minister Gordan Jandroković, foreign ministers of US-Adriatic Charter members, sign Addendum to Charter

On 4 December 2008 in the Republic of Finland, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković, together with the foreign ministers of the US-Adriatic Charter members, signed the Addendum to the US-Adriatic Charter, supporting the accession of new members Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro

The signing ceremony took place after the meeting of the Charter member countries, on the margins of the 16th OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Helsinki.

Short speeches were held by Minister Jandroković, Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Milošoski as the Charter’s chairman, Albanian Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha, and US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried, while on behalf of the new signatories speeches were held by Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sven Alkalaj and Montenegrin Foreign Minister Milan Roćen.

The signing ceremony also saw the presence of the ministers and representatives of the Baltic countries – Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Serbia, countries with which the Charter members cooperate.

Minister Jandroković welcomed the new members, pointing out that their accession means the strengthening of stability and security in the region. The US-Adriatic Charter has irrefutably proven its effectiveness in adopting the fundamental values and principles of NATO in South Eastern Europe, said Minister Jandroković, adding that Croatia remains adamant in maintaining and strengthening the cooperation with and support for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, transferring its experiences gained during Croatia’s Euro-integration process.
