Minister Gordan Jandroković participated in informal meeting of EU members and candidates’ foreign ministers (Gymnich format)

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković participated 6 September 2008 in Avignon, the French Republic, in the informal meeting of the EU members and candidates’ foreign ministers (the so-called Gymnich format)

During the working lunch, the foreign ministers discussed the situation in the Near East and the state of the peace process.

In a statement for the Croatian media, Minister Jandroković said it was extremely valuable to hear and exchange opinions with other colleagues in an open atmosphere, adding this is an important step forward for Croatia. He pointed out that Croatia is creating its foreign policy positions by itself, while these meeting serve to co-ordinate with European partners, as it deems it’s the best way to protect its interests and the interests of its citizens.

During his stay in Avignon, Minister Jandroković met with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen, and Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn.

Minister Jandroković described the talks as very useful, saying it way important to hear words of support for Croatia in its efforts to realise full EU membership. “Reforms and negotiations are underway and it seems we enjoy strong support for a successful completion of that process”, said Minister Jandroković to the press.
