Freight carriers again allowed crossing at Sočerga-Požane

As of Wednesday, freight carriers of up to 7.5 t are again allowed to cross the Sočerga-Požane border crossing in Istria

LJUBLJANA, 23 July 2008 (Hina) - As of Wednesday, freight carriers of up to 7.5 t are again allowed to cross the Sočerga-Požane border crossing in Istria.

The reinstatement of freight traffic on that Croatian-Slovenian border crossing was made possible by the Slovenian Government’s decree, which came into effect Wednesday. In recalled the freight carrier traffic ban from the earlier decree on determining the border crossings for international and interstate transport on the outer EU border.

Companies from the coastal area of Slovenia welcomed the decree, saying that politics positively reacted to their proposals.

The central Istria represents a natural hinterland for the Slovenian coastal-area companies, with whom they are linked through the Sočerga crossing. Its closing, having been considered by the current government as well, would significantly affect and reduce the competitiveness of Slovenian companies in that part of Croatia, said the entrepreneurs from the Slovenian coastal area in their press release.
