Minister Jandroković held lecture at Bjelovar Faculty of Economy entitled “Croatia’s Path Towards the EU and Members’ Experiences”

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković held 7 May 2008 a lecture at the Bjelovar Faculty of Economy entitled “Croatia’s Path Towards the EU and Members’ Experiences”

Minister Jandroković pointed out the importance of informing the citizens about the advantages and challenges of acceding to full EU membership, stressing that it is a process that includes not only politicians, but all of the citizens as well. As important elements in the coming period he noted the accession reforms Croatia must carry out and communication with the citizens.

Head of the European Commission’s Delegation to Croatia Vincent Degert pointed out in his presentation the five reasons for becoming An EU member – peace and stability, economic wellbeing and prosperity, the four freedoms, strong common currency, and world-wide humanitarian aid. He described Croatia as the region’s leader in the European processes and an example to other countries of South Eastern Europe.

Ambassadors of EU members Sweden, Italy, France, and Hungary, as well as other representatives of the diplomatic corps, also communicated their respective countries’ strong support during the discussion for Croatia’s full EU membership.

The lecture at the Bjelovar Faculty of Economy was held as a part of the EU BUS tour, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the European Commission’s Delegation to Croatia on the occasion of the Europe Week, being held 2-12 May 2008 throughout Croatia.
