Minister Jandroković hosted ministerial meeting between Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković hosted 5 May 2008 in Dubrovnik the ministerial meeting between Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, which discussed the perspectives of municipality co-operation in the three countries’ tri-state area

Apart from Minister Jandroković, Bosnian Foreign Minister Sven Alkalaj, and Montenegrin Foreign Minister Milan Roćen, the meeting also saw the participation of representatives of the tri-state area towns and municipalities, the Dubrovačko-neretvanska County, and international organisations.

The meeting is a continuation of the existing tri-border area co-operation and reflects the need for a more efficient co-operation among the region’s countries in joint activities in cases of natural disaster, transport linkage, joint natural resources management, and other activities of joint interest of the local border-area communities.

At the end of the meeting, the tri-state region and local authorities’ representatives signed the Memorandum on Founding the Regional Commission for the Management Natural and Other Disasters, a legal framework for the co-operation among the tri-state local communities.

Minister Jandroković said that regional cross-border co-operation is an important factor in enhancing the good-neighbourly relations. It is essential for stability, security, economic growth, and good-neighbourly relations, as well as for strengthening tolerance and mutual understanding in the region.

Minister Jandroković added that the Croatian Government will continue to support regional cross-border development projects as an important contribution to ensuring a general social progress and sustainable economic growth.

In light of the signed Memorandum, Minister Jandroković said that the subjects of the co-operation are border-area municipalities and towns. The results of their work and activities will reflect their actual joint needs and interests, which will guarantee a successful and efficient realisation of joint projects.
