Minister Grabar-Kitarović hanged Agreements on Financing Croatian Language Course for Croatians Abroad

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović hanged on 22 October 2007 the Agreements on Financing the Croatian Language Course for the Croatians Abroad

In her speech to the present parties, Minister Grabar-Kitarović stressed the importance Croatia places on reconstructing and strengthening the ties between the Croatians abroad and the homeland of their ancestors. Assistant Minister at the Directorate for Croatian Minorities, Emigration and Immigration Mirjana Bohanec Vidović pointed out the significance of linking the Croatian people abroad through the learning of language, culture and customs of their fellow countrymen.

The course is being held at the Zagreb Faculty of Arts – CROATICUM, and the Split Faculty of Arts – CROATICA. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, pursuant to the Rulebook on Allowances for the Croatian Language Learning in Croatia for the Croatians Abroad, covers the tuition for the course’s two semesters.

The winter semester of the 2007/2008 academic year began in October and is being attended by 37 attendees in Zagreb and 2 in Split, while the summer semester will begin in March 2008. The attendees come from various countries (Ghana, Algeria, South Africa, Paraguay, etc.), but mostly from South America.

In the 2006/2007 academic year, the course was attended by a total of 113 attendees.
