The European Commission’s Vice-President and Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry Günter Verheugen and Croatian Ambassador to the EU Branko Baričević signed on 1 October 2007 in Brussels the Memorandum of Understanding between the European Community and the Republic of Croatia allowing Croatia the access to the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (EIP)
The EIP facilitates the access to loans for small- and middle-sized enterprises through the financial instruments of the EU, stimulates innovation (namely in ecology), sets up a network of entrepreneurship and innovation centres, offers services in strengthening and competitiveness, and promotes the Union’s best practice in developing policies towards small- and middle-sized enterprises.
This will thus enable Croatian legal persons, namely small- and middle-sized enterprises, to take part for the first time in the EIP projects.
The signing of said Memorandum allows Croatia to participate in the EIP for the 2007-2013 period, with €2,17 bil. allocated for said period, of which €430 mil. for projects in the field of innovation.
