Minister Grabar-Kitarović present at signing of Japan’s Gift Agreement for the Croatian Mine Action Centre

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović was present on 2 October 2007 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration at the signing of Japan’s Gift Agreement for the Croatian Mine Action Centre

The Agreement, by which Japan donates means for mine action in the Cetingrad District of the Karlovačka County, was signed by Japanese Ambassador to Croatia Tetsuhisa Shirakawa and Director of the Croatian Mine Action Centre (HCR) Oto Jungwirth.

In her speech, Minister Grabar-Kitarović said that the co-operation between Croatia and Japan has always been high-level and that Japan’s recognition of the mine action issue in Croatia confirms the good relations between the two countries and further stimulates the solving of said issue.

The case of the Republic of Croatia is specific in that Croatia is financing 90% of mine action activities by itself, while at the same time one of the main goals of these activities is the rehabilitation and socio-economic reintegration of mine victims, said Minister Grabar-Kitarović.

The €148,467 donation will suffice for the clearance of 104,622 square meters of mine-suspicious areas in the Cetingrad District. This is the third time the Japanese Government is signing a donation agreement with HCR, with the total value of donations so far amounting to €587,135.
