State Secretary Biščević, in capacity of appointed RCC Secretary General, took part in first session of modernized and enlarged CEFTA’s Joint Committee

State Secretary for Political Affairs Hido Biščević, in the capacity of the appointed Secretary General of the Regional Co-operation Council (RCC), took part on 28 September 2007 in Ohrid, at the invitation of Macedonian Economy Minister Vera Rafajlovska, in the first session of the Joint Committee of the modernized and enlarged CEFTA (CEFTA 2006)

Organised by this year’s CEFTA member Macedonia, this is the Joint Committee’s first session since the coming into effect of the new, modernised and enlarged CEFTA Agreement (CEFTA 2006), whose signing was initiated by Croatia. A successful implementation of CEFTA is of crucial economic importance for SEE countries in their preparations for applying the rules of integrated EU market.

Since CEFTA 2006 represents one of the most important initiatives in strengthening the regional ownership over SEE co-operation processes, apart from CEFTA 2006 economy and trade ministers taking part in the activities of the Joint Committee, this year’s session also saw the participation of high European Commission and SEECP representatives. Also present at the Ohrid meeting was Erhard Busek, the Stability Pact’s Special Co-ordinator for South Eastern Europe.
