On behalf of Government of Republic of Croatia Ambassador Daniel Bučan delivered documents on Croatia’s ratification of “Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings”

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Croatia to the Council of Europe, Ambassador Daniel Bučan, handed on Wednesday, 5 September 2007, documents on Croatia’s ratification of “Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings”

The Convention includes issues of protection of victims of national or transnational trafficking in human beings within economic, but also within other sorts of crimes, protection of their rights and the issue of persecution of perpetrators. It also lays a foundation for establishing an independent mechanism of “monitoring” in order to ensure that the countries of the Convention follow its provisions.

The Republic of Croatia signed the Convention at the Third Summit of the Council of Europe in Warsaw, 16 May 2005. To this day the Convention has been signed by 28 and ratified by 8 members of the Council of Europe.
