Minister Grabar-Kitarović received German Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović received on 29 August 2007 the Defence Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Franz Josef Jung

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the highly developed overall relations between Croatia and Germany, as well as the successful co-operation at both bilateral and multilateral level. Both sides also stated satisfaction with the agreements recently signed between the two countries on military co-operation, education and training of the Croatian Armed Forces at Bundeswehr facilities, and the appointment of a military advisor. The Croatian-German co-operation within the mission to Afghanistan was described as equally high-quality and highly professional.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović thanked for Germany’s assistance in and support for Croatia’s efforts as regards the Euro-Atlantic integration. She informed Minister Jung about the progress Croatia has made in acceding to the full EU and NATO membership, pointing out that it is determined to go on with conducting the reforms and progress towards membership. Based on its achievements so far, Minister Grabar-Kitarović said, Croatia is optimistic about receiving the membership invitation at the NATO Summit in Bucharest next year.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović pointed out that Croatia is fully sharing the values of the international community and NATO Countries, paying special attention to the establishment and preservation of world peace.

Minister Jung stated Germany’s support for Croatia’s NATO membership, expressing great satisfaction not only with the development of the bilateral relations, but with the growing quality of the co-operation in defence and security policy as well. In that regard, he particularly noted the two countries’ co-operation within the ISAF peacekeeping mission to Afghanistan.
