State Secretary Hido Biščević received Romanian Defence Ministry delegation, led by Minister Teodor Meleşcanu

State Secretary for Political Affairs Hido Biščević received on 24 July 2007, as a part of their official visit to Croatia, the delegation of the Romanian Defence Ministry, led by Minister Teodor Meleşcanu

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of relations between Croatia and Romania, as well as the successful bi- and multilateral co-operation. State Secretary Biščević thanked for the strong support Romania has been offering Croatia on its way towards the EU and NATO membership. He further informed the Romanian side about the course of Croatia’s accession to the Euro-Atlantic integration, pointing out the reforms Croatia is carrying out and the progress achieved so far. He said that Croatia welcomes the announcements from the NATO Summit in Riga and expects of the next Summit in Bucharest to invite Croatia to full NATO membership.

Minister Meleşcanu stressed that Romania’s support for Croatia’s EU and NATO membership is unquestionable, and that Romania for its part, and also as the host of the next NATO Summit, will urge that Croatia’s expectations regarding NATO membership do come true.

The meeting also saw the exchange of opinions about the current political and security situation in South Eastern Europe, especially in light of the recent events regarding the status of Kosovo.
