State Secretary for European Integration Marija Pejčinović Burić met on 4 July 2007 with Co-Chair of the Joint EU-Croatia Committee for Monitoring Civil Society Anne-Marie Sigmund
During the meeting, State Secretary Pejčinović Burić presented the current events in the course of Croatia’s EU negotiations, with an emphasis on the opening of six new chapters. The State Secretary also noted the European Council’s decisions from June 2007, pointing out that the announced new institutional solution for the EU will greatly facilitate Croatia’s entry to its membership.
Committee’s Co-Chair Sigmund expressed special interest in the participation of civil society representatives in Croatia’s negotiation structure, as well as for certain negotiation chapters. She also announced the soon completion of the report Croatia on the Road to Accession, which deals with the socio-economic and political situation in Croatia and the role of civil society in Croatia, as well as the second session of the Joint EU-Croatia Committee for Monitoring Civil Society, to be held in October 2007 in Split.
