Croatia assumed OSCE FSC presidency at 512th regular meeting in Vienna

At today’s 512th regular meeting of OSCE Forum for Security and Co-operation (FSC) in Vienna, Croatia officially assumed the presidency over this autonomous and permanent OSCE body

FSC deals with the military-political issues of security, including arms control, disarmament, security measures and the building of trust, as well as the issues of non-proliferation, while also reviewing the changes in the military doctrines stemming from the new security threats. The presidency takes place in three-month cycles, and Croatia, who assumed the presidency from Cyprus, will hand it over end-July to Denmark.

Croatia’s task in the coming period is to provide a framework conducive to the continuation of the dialogue on the existing security balance, with a need to take into account the new realities in the strategic balance and security environment. Due to the numerous changes which have occurred in Europe in recent years, many OSCE members are trying to redefine their security interests, and a lively discussion is being led about it in the Forum.

Apart from that, said in his inaugural speech the permanent Croatian representative to OSCE, Ambassador Vladimir Matek, Croatia will also try to promote new regional efforts in stabilising the SEE region, which is faced with new security challenges. Appropriate emphasis will, therefore, be placed on the strengthening of regional security measures and trust.

The Forum convenes Wednesdays in OSCE Vienna headquarters in plenum and two working groups (A and B).
