Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović attended finals of high school EU-themed competition - EUQUIZ

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović attended on Sunday, 25 March 2007, in Zagreb the finals of high school EU-themed competition – EUQUIZ. The head of the Delegation of the European Commission to the Republic of Croatia Vincent Degert was also present at the event

The finals of the EUQUIZ, a high school competition with the theme of the EU, its institutions, relations between the Republic of Croatia and the European Union, and knowledge about old, new, and future member states, this year took place on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Roman treaty which was the foundation of the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community. The winners were the First Rijeka Croatian Gymnasium from Rijeka. The team won a trip to Brussels, a prize awarded by the Delegation of the European Commission to the Republic of Croatia. The Sixteenth Gymnasium team from Zagreb won second place, and the prize - trip to Germany and participation at the assembly of the European Youth Parliament in Bad Urach – is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and Croatia Airlines. Third place went to team no.2 of the Sixteenth Gymnasium from Zagreb, who won the participation at a seven-day youth meeting in Styria, a prize given by the Austrian Culture Forum Zagreb.

The rest of the competitors were the teams from the Third Gymnasium from Split, Požega Gymnasium, Vrbovec High school, Third Gymnasium from Osijek, Krapina High school, and Vladimir Gortan High school form Buje. The competition was sponsored by the following institutions: the Goethe Institute provided Croatian-German dictionaries, the Embassy of the French Republic to the Republic of Croatia provided French-Croatian-French dictionaries, the Italian Culture Institute provided Italian-Croatian-Italian dictionaries, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Croatia provided books and publications, and Školska knjiga provided books, atlases, and geographical maps.

The county level of the EUQUIZ competition was held on 23 February 2007, and it involved 223 teams, or 669 students, from 168 high schools from all of the Croatian counties.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has organized the EUQUIZ competition for the fifth year in a row, and this year the partner was Croatian Radiotelevision. EUQUIZ sponsors are Ministry of Science, Education and Sports and Education and Teacher Training Agency.
