The Committee’s activities include monitoring the development the members of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) have achieved in the field of women’s rights and the implementation of national measures by which countries fulfil the obligations assumed through the Convention.
The Committee is composed of 23 women members recognised as experts of high moral standards and expertise in the field covered by the Convention. They are elected by members of the Convention on the principle of equal geographical division to a four-year mandate.
