The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration welcomes the Final Declaration from Riga in which NATO heads of state and government commended Croatia’s significant progress and set a clear framework for its accession to this umbrella organization of western democracies
At the Summit, held 28 and 29 November 2006 in Riga, the Republic of Latvia, the allies stated their intention of inviting into NATO membership at the 2008 summit those countries who will have satisfied its standards, and in that regard commended the significant progress Croatia has made so far in conducting the political, economic, and defense reforms.
The message from Riga is primarily an encouragement for the continuation of the reform process and consistent implementation of the Membership Action Plan, as well as the intensification of the dialogue with the Croatian public about Croatia’s NATO accession.
By receiving a clear time framework for NATO accession at the Riga Summit, Croatia was given one of the most significant recognitions of its independence, further confirming its international position on the road to the realization of its strategic goal of integration into Euro-Atlantic organisations.
