State Secretary Pejčinović Burić met with Peter Tempel, Head of European Department at German Federal Foreign Office

State Secretary Marija Pejčinović Burić met 17 November 2006 with Peter Tempel, the Head of the European Department at the German Federal Foreign Office

The two exchanged information on the details of the current condition and further dynamics of the accession negotiations between Croatia and the EU, as well as the opinions on the European Commission’s Croatia Progress Report and the EU Enlargement Strategy.

State Secretary Pejčinović Burić reported in short about the condition of and the currents events in the accession negotiations and asked Tempel for an estimation of the further dynamics of the negotiations between Croatia and the EU by the end of the Finnish and start of the German presidency in the first half of 2007.

Department Head Tempel expressed his support for Croatia’s EU negotiations process and stated that the EU Enlargement Strategy met with a positive response and a strong support in Germany.

State Secretary Pejčinović Burić pointed out that the EC Croatia Progress Report is considered objective, as it, apart from the fields in which progress has been made, notes those in which additional efforts need to be put forth for the membership criteria to be met. A part of the meeting also covered the issue of informing the public about the European integration process. In that sense, State Secretary Pejčinović Burić presented the Communication Strategy for Informing the Croatian Public about the EU and the Preparations for Membership, adopted in 2006, and familiarised Department Head Tempel with its main goals.

At the end of the meeting, State Secretary Pejčinović Burić thanked Department Head Tempel for the support Germany has been offering so far to Croatia in its EU accession process.

State Secretary Pejčinović Burić took part 17 and 18 November 2006 at the 2nd Berlin conference

A Soul for Europe.
