Croatia elected member of IAEA Board of Governors

The Republic of Croatia was elected a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors Thursday, 21 September 2006, in Vienna, Austria

Croatian representative to the IAEA Board of Governors is Mario Horvatić.

The Republic of Croatia has been recognised as a responsible member of the international community that is contributing to the overall security and is putting forth great effort in its strengthening. Croatia’s election into the Board of Governors is a result of a years-long successful co-operation with the IAEA that has proven more than useful for Croatia, as regards both security, and economy and medicine.

Croatia has been a member of the IAEA since 1993 and has since developed and implemented various technical co-operation projects as an Agency’s partner country, and has offered technical assistance to third parties.

The Board of Governors is an executive body of the IAEA, seated in Vienna, and is composed of the 35 member countries. It is a place where information is exchanged regarding the newest possibilities of using nuclear power for peaceful purposes, nuclear projects, and nuclear programs of individual countries.
