Croatian representative was elected in the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women

On July 23, 2006 in New York were held the elections for the members of the United Nation 's Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women – CEDAW) for the period between 2007 – 2010, during which Croatian representative, Dubravka Šimonović, was elected

Croatian representative was elected for the second time in the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women supported by 112 voices.

Other candidates that were elected in the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women are Ferdous Ara Begum (the People’s Republic of Bangladesh), Meriem Belmihoub-Zerdani (the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria), Saisuree Chutikul (the Kingdom of Thailand), Dorcas Ama Frema Coker-Appiah (the Republic of Gana), Cornelis Flinterman (the Kingdom of the Netherlands), Naela Gabr Mohamed Gabre Ali (the Arab Republic of Egypt), Ruth Halperin-Kaddari (the State of Israel), Violeta Neubauer (the Republic of Slovenia), Pramila Patten (the Republic of Mauritius), Fumiko Saiga (Japan), Hazel Gumede Shelton (the Republic of South Africa).

The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women supervise the implantation of the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women in the countries that have ratified or acceded to the Convention. The Committee treats the objections one might have considering the eventual violation of rights protected by the Convention.
